Stitch Fix Outfits – My January Box

Here are my January Stitch Fix outfits! I thought my stylist did a great job with my December box, but my oh my she nailed it with this month’s pieces. If only I wasn’t on a little bit of a savings spree (ya know, the opposite of a spending spree) after the Holidays and preparing for spring break and summer trips. I absolutely wanted to keep everything she sent.

Have you tried Stitch Fix? If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a completely new way to shop and I love it. Basically, it’s an online subscription and personal shopping service. You keep what you like and send back what you don’t. Imagine being assigned a personal stylist who gets to know you and your style + what fits your needs. Find out more here.

I knew I was only keeping one thing out of this box, so I was super picky this time around. I’m working on building my spring wardrobe, so I kept that in mind when choosing what to keep and what to send back.

Outfit Details: Dolman Sleeve Top | Denim (old; similar) | Olive Jacket (old; similar) | Converse

Kept or sent back: Sent Back

Reason: The only reason I sent this back is because I own quite a few burgundy shirts and like I mentioned, I’m working on building my spring wardrobe right now. Other than that, I absolutely loved this shirt. It’s perfect to wear alone with your favorite denim and converse. Or you could dress it up with a cardigan and flats. It’s a lightweight shirt and is perfect for layering under a jacket.

Pullover – Kept or Sent Back: Sent back

Reason: I really (really) wanted to keep this pullover but since I live in Texas and most likely we only have maybe one more cold spell left, I just couldn’t justify spending the money on it right now. But let me tell you, this pullover fit me perfectly. I loved the color, the texture, and the length and it’s a good basic sweater to have in your wardrobe.

Skinny jeans – Kept or sent back: Sent back

Reason: These jeans fit great everywhere but the length. I have short legs and they were too long. Unrolled, there was quite a bit of fabric bunched up and I had to roll them quite a bit to work with my ankle boots. I think I need to try a pair of ankle jeans next to see how those work for me.

41Hawthorn Renesme Geo Cube Jersey Faux Wrap Dress

Here are my Stitch Fix outfits from my January Box. Have you tried Stitch Fix? If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a completely new way to shop and I love it.

Outfit details: Dress | Wedges; old (similar) | Handbag

Kept or sent back: Sent back

Reason: I’m a big fan or wrap dresses and really liked the style of this one. The only issue I had was it was a little tight in the arms, making it a little restrictive when I tried to move. Maybe moving up one size would have solved that issue, but other than that, this dress was perfection!

41Hawthorn Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse

Outfit details: Blouse | Denim | Sandals; old (similar) | Handbag

Kept or sent back: Kept!

Reason: Not only am I working on my spring wardrobe, but I’m working on adding a little more color into my wardrobe as well. I tend to gravitate toward neutrals and while there’s nothing wrong with that, I’d like to add in a few more pops of color and florals this year. Also, I had a sleeveless shirt this exact color and loved it, but had to get rid of it after realizing the fit just wasn’t right for me. It sat in my closet for a couple of years and didn’t get worn. I hung on to it because I loved the color!

I really like how this top fits, plus it’s so versatile. I can wear it with jeans or shorts and even tuck it in and wear it with a pencil skirt.

There you have it – my Stitch Fix Outfits and January box. Have you tried Stitch Fix yet? Just remember that each Fix gets better over time as your stylist gets to know you. Check back with me next month as I share my February box with you.

A Bell Sleeve Top and Combat Boots

This bell sleeve top might just become one of my new favorite pieces when it’s time to leave winter behind and head into spring. It’s lightweight, extremely comfortable and goes well with just about any shoe I choose.

This bell sleeve top might just become one of my new favorite pieces when it's time to leave winter behind and head into spring. This bell sleeve top might just become one of my new favorite pieces when it's time to leave winter behind and head into spring.

I’ve been pushing myself to step out of my comfort zone a little when it comes to fashion, which means to try some trends I might normally snub and also play around a little more with different looks. This would be one of those outfits where I did both.

Bell sleeve tops were a big trend last season and it looks like they’re not going anywhere. Some say bell sleeves are replacing those cold-shoulder tops we saw everywhere and I say, wear what you like! Am I right? You could go really crazy and wear a cold shoulder bell sleeve top and confuse all those fashion gurus. 😉

Tops are one item of clothing where I like to play around with trends. I purchased the one I’m wearing at Target on sale. It was normally $22.99 and I snagged it for almost half of that.

When I was first putting together this outfit, I had on my trusty go-to black ankle boots. And then I put on a pair of black flats. And then I saw my daughter’s black combat boots she left behind in my closet because she inherited my love of shoes and couldn’t take them all to college with her. So I thought, what they heck and why not?!

I’m a child of the 90s and slipping those boots on felt like coming home. Okay, that was the cheesiest sentence ever in the history of this blog, but in all seriousness…it felt fun wearing those boots and I’ll probably do it again.

This bell sleeve top might just become one of my new favorite pieces when it's time to leave winter behind and head into spring.

In my newsletter yesterday, I talked about your power outfit. (If you’re not on my list, you’re missing out on some exclusive content, but no worries, it’s super easy to sign up. Just Click Here and you’re good to go!) You can definitely have more than one power outfit and these combat boots might fit into power outfit position number two.

Because this outfit was a little harsh with the black top and the black combat boots, I toned it down a bit with a soft pink handbag.

This bell sleeve top might just become one of my new favorite pieces when it's time to leave winter behind and head into spring.

So what do you think, would you try the bell sleeve top trend? I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites below. Give it a whirl! You just might fall in love with this style.

I used to think rain boots were a little overrated until I moved to a rainy climate. I also wasn’t sure what the hype was all about when it came to Hunter Boots, until I tried a pair on, bought those suckers and then started creating different outfit ideas with them. Add that to the fact you can wear them in snowy weather (with inserts or thick socks to keep your feet warm!) and rainy weather, and you have a pair of shoes that protect your feet from the climate and are stylish to boot. (See what I did there?)

5 Jojoba Oil Uses for Healthy, Beautiful Skin

Are you struggling with acne, dry skin or razor burn? Those are just a few Jojoba Oil uses! (It’s pronounced Ho-ho-ba for those of you who were wondering like I was.) There are many more surprising benefits which can help you achieve that healthy and beautiful skin we all want.

Are you struggling with acne, dry skin or razor burn? Those are just a few Jojoba Oil uses!

*This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.

I’ve heard about Jojoba Oil and I’ve used it here and there over the years, but I had no idea just how great of a product it was until I really started doing some research. And then I had a chance to try it. I am all about one product that can be used for multiple things and Jojoba Oil is known as nature’s multi-tasker. Needless to say, it’s worth your time and money to give it a try.

5 Jojoba Oil Uses for Healthy, Beautiful Skin

Makeup Remover

If you’re looking something to remove your makeup that contains zero chemicals, is natural and hypoallergenic, Jojoba Oil is perfect. It easily removes dirt, makeup, and bacteria – plus it’s good for your skin.

To remove makeup: Just add a few drops to a cotton ball or even your finger and wipe over your eyes and face, then rinse off with water.

For Acne

Using an oil to help with acne would have scared me to death back in my teen years, but skin care research has come a long way. I will say, before you try Jojoba Oil for acne, do your research and read up on it. But here’s why it works. The oil provides a deep clean for the skin and clears the clogged pores by pushing out the blockage. Jojoba oil is also very soothing, which acne prone skin needs, and it helps with redness and flaking of the skin. It’s also an antibacterial agent and is effective against the main bacteria responsible for acne formation.

To cleanse for acne: Cleanse skin first with a gentle cleanser. Apply Jojoba oil with fingers or a cotton ball, rubbing in for one to two minutes. Gently remove the oil with a warm, wet washcloth.

As a Moisturizer

Jojoba oil can be used as a moisturizer for both oily and dry skin. It moisturizes without clogging pores and it locks in the moisture, providing your skin with a protective barrier from the harsh environmental effects.

To use as a moisturizer: After cleansing and toning your face, apply a few drops of Jojoba oil into your palm and gently rub on your face. You can also mix it into your favorite moisturizer in the palm of your hand since it’s known to have anti-aging benefits as well.

Prevent Razor Burn

I did some extensive reading on using Jojoba oil for shaving and there were three recommended ways to use it: apply it before you use shaving cream, use it alone instead of shaving cream and use it after you shave with shaving cream. Regardless of how you decide to use it, everyone raved about how smooth their legs were and also how they had no red bumps.

For Dry Hands and Feet

Dry hands are a big issue in the winter, while cracked heels and dry feet tend to be common year round. Applying Jojoba oil directly to your hands and feet often will make them soft and smooth. If your hands and feet are really dry, soak them in the bath and then spread a few drops on your hands, bottoms of your feet and heels, focusing on any dry, cracked areas. Jojoba oil is a natural antibacterial agent, so it’s also used to treat and prevent fungal infections of the skin, including athlete’s foot.

After reading all of these Jojoba Oil uses can you see why it’s called nature’s multi-tasker? Which use are you looking forward to trying it for first?

Are you struggling with acne, dry skin or razor burn? Those are just a few Jojoba Oil uses!

A Little Fun with Winter White Outfits

As I mentioned in my newsletter, I know winter white outfits are completely impractical, but they’re fun! (You can sign up for my newsletter here by the way. I give content sneak peeks, plus exclusive fashion and beauty tips.) I also know that even wearing white denim is a big stretch for some of you because, hello, life is messy. (Side note: I’ve heard amazing things about Old Navy’s Stay White jeans!)

But every once in awhile, there may be a moment where you can dress out of your comfort zone a bit. Maybe you have a chance to go out for girls’ night, dinner with friends or date night with your significant other. And you just might be looking for something totally out of the ordinary. A winter white outfit is definitely not ordinary.

5 Wardrobe Essentials That’ll Take You Right Into Spring

Are you looking for a few wardrobe essentials to invest in now that you can also wear in the spring? Look no further! I’m talking about five of my favorites that I think you’ll love as well.

Are you looking for a few wardrobe essentials to invest in now that you can also wear in the spring? Look no further! I'm talking about five of my favorites that I think you'll love as well.

One of the most common wardrobe questions I’m asked is what items I have in my closet that I would consider essentials, as well as how I build a wardrobe that carries me from season to season. Because I maintain a fairly small wardrobe, I don’t have to swap out my cold weather clothing for my warm weather clothing. I’m all about layering and getting the most out of my wardrobe, so you’ll actually see me wearing some of my spring dresses in the fall and my lightweight sweaters in the early spring and in the winter. Needless to say, I have very few items that I would consider one season only.

If you’re looking for a few items to update your wardrobe and you want to be able to wear them now and in the spring, here are my top five wardrobe essentials and favorites.

5 Wardrobe Essentials That’ll Take You Right Into Spring

The Lightweight Striped Sweater

stitch-fix-outfit-03

If you read my Stitch Fix outfits post, then you know how in love I was with the lightweight striped sweater they sent me. It replaced another striped shirt I had to get rid of because it was so worn. This is an item of clothing I will wear year round, except in the dead heat of summer when the temps reach 90’s and above.

There are countless ways to wear a striped sweater (hmmmm, I see an outfit post on this subject in the near future) and it’s a classic wardrobe essential that’s great to have in your closet.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Your Favorite Denim

Right now frayed denim are on trend, but when it comes to investment pieces like denim, I encourage women to not purchase it just because it’s trendy, but because you love it and it looks amazing on you. If frayed denim makes your heart sing, go for it. If not, steer clear of it. I have readers who write me and say if I post one more fashion post with skinny jeans they’re hitting the highway. Well, skinny jeans are what I love. (Sorry! But I will try to do better at offering a wider range of jean styles this coming year.)

I have five pairs of denim in my closet I absolutely love: dark, lighter, light, black and white. That’s it. It works for me and I wear them year round.

Here are a few of my favorite places to shop for denim:

target-denim

Target Denim – Jeans of every style for every shape

old-navy-denim

Old Navy – Their Rockstar and Curvy are my favorites

distressed-skinny-jeans

Forever 21 – I bought a pair of black denim here on sale for $7. Favorite.black.denim.ever.

A Coat That Goes with Everything

25 winter coats and what to wear them with. Have you ever found yourself searching on Pinterest 'what winter coat to wear with...?' I sure have. Here are some ideas for you! This might seem like a no-brainer, but hear me out. Have you ever seen this gorgeous brightly colored coat that costs an arm and a leg but you just had to have it…so you bought it and then you never wore it because it doesn’t seem to match anything? Phew, that was a long sentence! I have a beautiful blue coat that hangs in our hall closet and rarely sees the light of day. But it’s GORGEOUS. Do you see where I’m going with this?

We all need a coat that goes with everything and that can easily carry over into those spring months.

Just like these:

The Cinch-and-Go Bag

A bag you can throw your everyday items in and go is a must. Once I realized I didn’t need a handbag in every style and in every color of the rainbow, my closet space, and my sanity thanked me. I now own just a handful of bags and I enjoy switching them out every now and then. But my favorites are a reversible tote and a drawstring cinch-and-go bag with tassels. They both have plenty of space to hold what I need.

Ankle Booties

Hang on to those ankle booties or update to a pair that you love and that don’t kill your feet. These are the perfect shoe to carry you into spring and to carry you all over town. Go for a good block heel which will give you height and support. You can wear ankle boots with a dress, dress pants and a jacket or a tunic and your favorite denim. They are a versatile shoe that goes with just about anything.

Here’s a round-up of some of my favorites:
