With only four ingredients and a few minutes of your time, you can whip up this S’mores dip recipe that will put a smile on everyone’s face, creating one very happy moment. Hello happy! (Keep reading for a giveaway!)
Every day, about half an hour before my kids arrive home from school, I take a few minutes to decompress and wrap up my work day. It helps me get ready to greet them with a smile, ask them how their day was and to be ready for the evening’s activities. This is my 30 minutes of me time.
One of the first things all three of my kids say when they walk in the door is “I am so hungry!” Their happy moment is getting home from school, having a snack and decompressing from their day. One way to guarantee a smile out of them, is to have a yummy snack ready and waiting. I don’t do this near as much as I used to, and now that we’re about to send our oldest off to college, I am all about creating memories and special moments that stick with them. Sometimes something as simple as a tasty snack is all you need to create a moment that will be sealed in their memory for years to come.
Most kids love s’mores, am I right? But on an average school day, cuddling around the campfire is a hassle. This S’mores dip recipe is the perfect treat after a long day. Whether my kids are dealing with relationship drama, a bad grade or just an overall tough day, I know I can sprinkle in some happy here and there, letting them know that home is their safe place.
Something like a snack waiting for them when they arrive home seems so simple, and like it might not make that much of an impact, but oh how it does. I still remember days my mom had homemade chocolate chip cookies waiting for me after I got off the bus. It was a small gesture that made me feel loved.
I love how Hershey’s is making it a priority to open our eyes to the every day joys around us by creating experiences where we can choose happy. Even in places or moments you think it’s just not possible, like dealing with the tough teenage years or while you’re sitting in traffic, choosing happy can help pull you through. Whether it’s an after school s’mores or a rainy day stuck indoors, we can choose happiness anywhere.
Would you like to know how to make this S’mores dip? It is super simple!
S’mores Dip Recipe
My kids had a day off from school, so I had a helper.
Step one: Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Put a cast iron skillet (or whatever skillet you have available) in the oven for a couple of minutes to heat up. Take the skillet out of the oven, and put two Tbsp. of butter in the skillet, melting it.
Step two: Pour a bag of Hershey’s chocolate chips into the buttered skillet, until the bottom is covered.
Step three: Place large marshmallows, that have been cut in half, all around the pan on top of the chocolate chips.
Step four: Place it in the preheated oven for 5 to 7 minutes, keeping a close eye on the marshmallows. You want them to get a little browned and not burnt!
Are you ready to dig in? My kids sure were!
Even as a full-time working parent who stays pretty busy (as I’m sure you all do too!), I know I can create special happy moments like these that aren’t hard, but are memorable.
Speaking of memorable moments, April 28th is Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day. I remember so well going to work with my mom. For the longest time I thought she talked on the phone for a living and that’s exactly what I decided I wanted to do when I grew up and got a job. (I found out later that although yes, she did talk on the phone quite a bit working for a life insurance agency, she did not in fact only talk on the phone all day.)
I had a little yellow play phone and a box full of little note cards. I would sit in my room for hours ‘answering’ the phone and jotting down notes. It was riveting work, let me tell you.
I think it is so incredibly important for our kids to not only know what we do for a living, but to actually see us doing it. Going into my mom’s office with her allowed me to see a number of things. For example, how busy she was during the day, how many people were demanding of her time, what little breaks she got and overall how hard she worked.
My husband and I are in a unique situation where we both work from home. My blog is literally a family business. My husband does my photos and video shooting, as well as all the behind the scenes activities that keep Mom Fabulous running. My oldest son does my video editing and my daughter is my social media assistant. Since my youngest son doesn’t have as much involvement as the others, I sat him down and ‘took him to work’ if you will, explaining how I earn a living.
Because our work is such a big part of our daily lives, they know quite a bit about what I do and how. I hope my kids take away from this to pursue their dreams. It has been a dream of mine and my husband’s to both work from home since he got out of the Air Force. It hasn’t been easy and it’s been a roller coaster ride, but right now we’re living our dream. We both know there are bumps in the road to come, but we take it a day at a time, step back and are thankful and happy for where we are in life right now.
On Take Your Kids to Work Day, Hershey’s is setting out to remind us that happiness is a choice. That we can all create these “Hello Happy Moments” with our families, which will build connections and create lasting memories.
