Do you drink enough water? This has always been an issue for me, but I’ve decided 2017 is the year I take back my health and start being more proactive about it. One simple thing I can do for myself is to get serious about the amount of water I drink. I struggle with migraines and I’ve noticed one of the triggers is dehydration. On most days I get a migraine, I can track it back to the fact that I’ve already consumed two cups of coffee and zero cups of water. Not good.
Here are some ways I’m making getting my 8 glasses a day, less of a chore and something to look forward to.
5 Easy Ways to Drink More Water
1.Use The Brita Stream Pitcher At the end of February, I started using the new Brita Stream pitcher. In fact, my entire family started using it and it’s now part of our daily routine. It’s great for making that perfect cup of espresso, but it’s also great for helping you drink more water. We keep it in our refrigerator for daily use. Whoever uses up the last bit of water, fills it up again for the next person. It’s amazing how something as simple as keeping a pitcher full of cold water in the refrigerator has helped increase mine (and my family’s) water consumption.
The Brita Stream, which is Available at Target, features Filter-As-You-Pour Technology. What does that mean exactly? It means no more waiting for the water to make its way through the filter. You just fill it and pour instantly, enjoying filtered water in a snap.
Another nice feature I like is its controlled pour. We use a lot of reusable water bottles for when we’re away from the house, and the controlled pour makes it incredibly easy to fill them. 2. Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning
Remember how I said I drank two cups of coffee before even touching a glass of water? Well, that’s a habit I knew I needed to break. It’s also something I wrote about, pointing out the benefits. Now I just need to follow my own advice, right?
Drinking that glass of water first thing in the morning is a really good way to start out your day. If my goal is 8 glasses a day, checking one glass off my list first thing feels pretty amazing.
3. Add flavor to your water
If drinking so much water seems a little mundane and hard to do, adding a few fruit slices, cucumbers or even herbs can kick your water up a notch. I’ve noticed by the end of the day, sometimes the thought of drinking another glass of water is the last thing I want to do. But if I add a few berries, mint or cucumber to it, I actually look forward to drinking it.

4. Refill your water cup after every bathroom break
I’ve realized that getting to that 8 cups of water a day is just like any other habit. It’s learned and it’s something I have to train myself to do. One trick it to refill your water cup after every bathroom break you take. (Which you’ll be taking more of given the fact you’re upping your water intake.) Since I’m already up from my desk, it’s the perfect time to refill my cup.
You’ll notice after a couple of weeks of doing this, it’ll become second nature to you. You’ll also notice how much better you feel!
5. Swap sodas for water when eating out
When we eat out, I always order water as my drink. Long gone are the days of soda with my meal. Not only can this save you some money (water is usually free), but it helps you get to your goal of 8 glasses faster. Also, if you’re trying to lose a little bit of weight or stay at your current weight, sipping a glass of water before your meal makes you feel full. You’ll consume fewer calories and maybe even get to take home leftovers for the next day.
If we order dinner to go, we now skip the drinks and drink water at home. Again, it saves us money and is the healthier option.
